Introduction to AI Leaders project

The Role of AI in Modern Economic and Social Development

Artificial intelligence (AI) isn't just a technological trend; it's a key force driving economic development and social progress. By combining data, algorithms, and computing power, AI has the potential to transform industries, solve complex problems, and enhance our quality of life. Recognising its importance, the European Digital Strategy has emphasised the need for "ethical, secure, and cutting-edge AI made in Europe."

The Critical Role of Universities

Universities play a vital role in this AI landscape. They are the places where ethical AI is not only studied but also shaped, ensuring that future business leaders are equipped to handle the complexities of an AI-driven world.

Addressing the Skills Mismatch

While universities have succeeded in attracting more students, they have lagged behind in meeting the evolving needs of the business world, particularly in AI. Employers now seek graduates who are not only skilled in traditional business practices but also understand AI and its ethical implications. Unfortunately, AI education in business management programmes often focuses solely on data analytics, neglecting the broader ethical, social, and legal issues.

Introducing the AI Leader Project

Our AI Leader project aims to bridge this gap by collaborating with professionals, including AI experts, software developers, and educators, to better meet the learning needs of students and reduce skills mismatches.

Our Goals and Resources

Our project has a clear and ambitious goal: to integrate AI teaching, its real-world business applications, and emerging ethical issues into business and management faculties in higher education institutions. We aim to use innovative teaching methods to equip current and future business students with the skills to harness AI for European economic growth while upholding our values and trust.

To achieve this, we will develop the following educational resources:

  1. Responsible AI Case Studies & Introductory Toolkit: Aimed at educators in business and management faculties, this toolkit provides foundational knowledge on AI, its business applications, and emerging ethical issues.
  2. AI OERs (Open Educational Resources) for Business Management: A set of flexible open education resources based on real-world case studies that lecturers can use to teach and implement AI-based assignments.
  3. AI in Business Management Hackathons: An interdisciplinary approach to teaching ethical considerations in AI and business to students, which will be systematised in a guide for other institutions to replicate.
